Jasmine Marchbanks-Owens is a barred attorney and proud native of Rancho Cucamonga, California. She earned both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from the University of La Verne, where she was honored with the university’s highest student award for activism and recognized by the California State Assembly for her contributions to social change. Following graduate school, Jasmine served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Costa Rica until she was evacuated due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Upon returning home, she worked alongside activists and community leaders across Southern California to petition counties to formally declare racism a public health crisis. Jasmine went on to earn her Juris Doctor from Howard University School of Law, where she served as National Vice Chair of the National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA), one of the largest student-run nonprofit organizations in the country. She was also published in the Howard Civil Rights Law Review for her note titled "Don't Forget About Me: The Epidemic and Erasure of Violence Against Black Women & the Power of the Enforcement Clause of the Thirteenth Amendment." Jasmine graduated with the highest number of pro bono hours in the law school’s history and clerked at the Mississippi Court of Appeals. Jasmine is committed to pursuing a legal career in civil rights to ensure that historically marginalized communities have full access to their constitutional rights. Jasmine currently serves on the boards of Just the Beginning and Congregations Organized for Prophetic Engagement. She is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
